Photographic journeys down the road less – travelled.

A native of Harlan County, Kentucky in the midst of the coalfields and a proud coal miner’s daughter, I am truly Appalachian at heart. After finishing my BA in Sociology at EKU, I became a Madison County “transplant”. I now reside in Berea, KY, where my love for the arts is fed and inspiration lies around every corner. I enjoy taking drives with my fiancé, Richard, and photographing the beauty and mystery hidden along the American backroads. This blog is the marriage of our passions.

A travel and photography blog created by Berea, KY residents Aleshia and Richard, “As the Crow Flies” offers a unique collection of photos and stories “off the beaten path”. Featured posts showcase a broad variety of locations. You can expect anything from the spine-chilling character of an abandoned farmhouse to the nostalgia of a small-town ice cream parlor. So, delve into the mysterious and the forgotten and follow us down an uncommon path to visit the road less-travelled.
